Are pool room owners frustrated pool players? Not necessarily. For example, take a look at Angie Voorhees, the owner of Rockford Billiard Café, a new pool room in Rockford, Illinois and a member of the winning team of this year's BCA National Eight-Ball Championship.
Angie Voorhees began playing pool as a physical education student at Illinois State University. Her immediate success encouraged her to stick with her new hobby, which in time became her major pursuit. Her daily routine includes management of the Rockford Billiard Café (along with her husband, Tyler, a trick shot artist and a cue maker), plus a few hours of practice on the pool table.
In addition, Voorhees plays about 18 pool tournaments a year, hoping to make it into professional level. Voorhees also practices karate, kickboxing and mixed-martial arts as well as teaches children at a local martial arts center.
Rockford Billiard Café, opened recently on 1436 N Main St., Rockford, Illinois is a joint project of the Voorhees couple. The pool room has 16 pool tables with new top grade cloth and rails and new Aramith Super Pro Balls. The place also has a cue repair shop, pool lessons and pool leagues for all ages.
